We are going to get a new family member in May and I'm planning to upgrade our Focus STW to a bit bigger car. One choice I've been thinking is Focus C-Max but what other options there are for a five person family? Anyone with good ideas?

P.S. A.F.F. Skoda is not an option ;)

I've heard some not so good things about Subaru's diesel engines.

Oh and a FIAT Uno for the wife and kids ;) :D

Congratulations by the way, unless you are just planning to steal a new family member in which case...well I couldn't even comment.

No idea about em. I just know the Subaru garage I've been working at for the past week has sold quite alot of them already. Mind you I have been working in Coventry, it might just be because they are more relaible than Jaguar's. :s

The Volvo's would be a sensible option, but I just cant get past the fact that they are so dull.

I like car with some corners, in case the price is affordable VW Caravel looks luxurious.

For tighter budget Mazda E2000 wouldn't be bad choice.

Not a good choice for Don, you need a lot of driving-experience for that car :p :

I also do Fiat chain as well as a BMW, Porche and sportscars group. I might throw myself off a car transporter before I finish all that lot. We can gladly swap. I'd quite like a go in a fork lift truck. :D

What about a Vauxhall, a Meriva or a Zafira.

Zafira is pretty flexible, decent space-wise for getting kids in. I had a GSi which was pretty fast but thirsty.

How about a Vectra Estate? A bit boring but get an Elite and you get some nice options like colour satnav, leather, heated seats etc., and it won 'Estate Car Of The Year', the load area is huge! It's a proper estate, not like some of the 'lifestyle' wagons you see about.

The V6 Diesel is a great engine, my father in law has a Signum with it. I've got a 1.9CDTi which is cheaper, a bit taxi-sounding but the it chips easily to 200bhp ;)

A Mondeo or a Vectra - A Focus S-Max is a bus and therefore unsexy.
For your own sanity if you must buy something which requires you to turn around and yell at kids, then make sure that they're within yelling distance.

A Mondeo ST220 sans ST220 will give you something you can secretly throw about when there's no little people in the back. You just can't do that with a bus.
