For what it's worth, the Rally Mexico organizers run the "Rally America" event (no relation to the North American sanctioning body) along side WRC Mexico - the past few years, it has been all the same stages except for some of the SSS, doesn't require FIA homologated cars, and has an entry fee that's probably 1/10 that of the full WRC event.

While this national event doesn't overflow with entries like it probably would in Europe, there's definitely more interest than 9 locals.

It's either:
a) There's only 9 locals who can afford a homologated car, WRC entry fee, etc.
b) There's not enough value for most of the locals (or their sponsors) to justify the $$$$$$ for a homologated car, entry fee etc.

Are they taking the sport to a country where there's less participation in rally than all of Europe? Sure. Non-exsistent seems like a stretch, though.

I hope that broadcasting of SS1 on Escuderia Telmex site won`t be cancelled now that Name won't start. Telmex was the main Name's sponsor.

I'd be willing to bet that without the Sordo car going, the money to be paid to Prodrive by Name to do it on his own would have gone up astronomically (economy of scale...) so they had to bail.

the real rally starts at 8:08 friday morning local time which means

16:08 on Friday for Greece and Finland
14:08 on Friday for the UK
15:08 on Friday for rest of EU
