Loeb looks to sportscars with new team
Story from www.wrc.com
The Citroen ace, who will start Wales Rally GB later this month chasing an eighth world crown, has established Sebastien Loeb Racing in partnership with his friend Dominique Heintz, the man who helped to fund his early career in rallying.
Loeb has a deal with Citroen until the end of 2013 but will look to sportscar racing when he ends his hugely successful stint in the WRC. He took part in the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2005 and 2006 and has contested selected sportscar events in France and Spain.
“I’ve had a few experiences on circuits, in different disciplines, and I liked those experiences as well as the atmosphere around them,” said Loeb, who claimed his 67th victory in the WRC on last month’s RallyRACC-Rally de Espana. “Endurance racing is an attractive discipline and the 24 Hours of Le Mans is a legendary race. We hope to one day be on the grid as a racing team. To accomplish this, we must put together a cohesive project and take it step by step.”
Sebastien Loeb Racing will contest the Le Mans Series and Porsche Cup in France from next season.
“This isn’t a one-shot deal,” Loeb continued. “We want to build a serious and professional team, which will be there for the long haul. It’s a real challenge: we can’t underestimate the size of it. But that’s also what’s good about it. I’m going to discover new aspects, aspects that will represent my future, and which will allow me to stay in racing and therefore keep living my passion.”
