Toby Moody
Time's running out for him I'm afraid. New commentator for Snetterton please. Tony needs to actually show an interest if he wants to continue doing this series...

At this point I'd like to leap to his defence and remind you that's it's a terrifically difficult job.... but dammit he's particularly awful.

I feel a bit sorry for him, as I do for any commentator who comes into the role and simply can't do a good enough job. Jonathan Legard on the F1 was another example. It can't be nice. But how on earth Toby Moody came to be chosen, with his weird cadences that make him sound like someone doing a bad impersonation of a sports commentator, I have no idea.

Clashing commitments with British GT - they only race something like eight times this year, but he's had two clashes in the last two races!
I don't normally wade in on commentators, but even I could see it was Bratt and not Austin in the second race long before Toby (and, to be fair, Simon). Still, he did apologise profusely to us viewers, which was appreciated. He had me convinced initially anyway...Anyone remember when these signatures used to be funny?

Moody was really bad yesterday, and really pissed me off when he kept on saying it didnt matter after he had made a mistake! Sort it out!

Oh I totally agree. It's a phenomenally difficult job, and like any job those who are good at it make it look easy. Anybody who thinks otherwise should try it themselves: stick a race on the telly and commentate along out loud - I can pretty much guarantee you'll flounder after a few minutes.
ITV must take the blame for Moody's appointment, he's clearly not up to the task and should never have been employed for that role. I'm sure that (like Legard) he's a decent chap who is trying his heart out, and I'm sure he genuinely wants to do a better job. Hopefully he'll relax into the role and turn out ok, but I fear his days are numbered.Useful F1 Twitter thingy: http://goo.gl/6PO1u

But what I dont get is that he is so good at Moto GP and can pick any rider out of a 30 bike, Moto 3 field, yet cant get bugger all right in the BTCC!

I was hoping by the middle of the season he would have calmed down a bit - sadly not.

I agree with all of the above, however he is not as bad as the idiots on ESPN doiong the DTM. I have now stopped watching the DTM because of the commentary.
Ben Edwards has always been my favourite commentator since his CART/champ car days on Eurosport. He makes any series sound exciting.Indy cars says bye to Sky. Yeah baby.......

I rarely even take a glimpse at the DTM anymore, it's glory days are gone, and unlike F1 this season, which has re-gained it's former glory, the addition of the BMW and top-10 points-scores doesn't seem to have done much. The DTM is awful, and the commentary is oh-so-terrible. What a sleaze-fest.
Even with Moody, I don't think the BTCC is that bad.

No ones perfect. apart from the odd cock up i think hes doing a good job. It's his first year and each track is new to him as far as the BTCC goes. give him till the end of the season till you start to judge him.

That seems the most likely explanation.
It's just not a good enough of an excuse for a big name commentator within motorsports.
The likes of Ben Edwards and David Croft have in the past commentated on different categories within a season and even boxing and darts in regards to the latter! The world according to Taki Inoue: https://mobile.twitter.com/takiinoue/status/301406167249326080

I did not suggest that. No, it's not the commentary that entirely ruins it. Cars hardly get to even tap each other without getting a penalty, some of the regulations are quite poor ones, and all-in-all, the series is just bad. What I did suggest is that the commentary is a little part of deducts from it's quality, not that it is the main cause for destroying the series.
I will say this much positive for the series-it has had its glory days, its had great, skilled professional racing drivers, and the recent round at Noisring was actually worth watching.
Not too often that have I said that, as it has been at least 3-4 years since I last took my time watching anything, or feeling as though something is worth being watched from the DTM!

Just watched the Croft highlights. Goodness, Toby Moody was poor. Getting Neate and Plato confused in the latter stages, having just commentated on Plato taking the lead from Neate, really isn't good enough. I know it's very easy to criticise commentators and that they have a hard job to do, but there are limits.

I used to watch DTM highlights about 10 years ago and remember it being quite good racing, I was certainly surprised to see it had got so bad at the A1 Ring the other week. I don't think it helps that the races are so long and the camera positions so poor, plus the directing is awful and seems to flip about from car to car without really concentrating on anyone, never really lets you get a true idea of what's happening.
