    National Speedsport News Ceases Publication

    America's Oldest Motorsports Publication Folds

HARRISBURG, N.C. (AP) - The oldest motorsports publication in America is going out of business after 76 years.

The publisher of National Speed Sport News says the final issue is Wednesday.
The first edition of the weekly paper was dated Aug. 16, 1934. Chris Economaki sold that first issue at Ho-Ho-Kus Speedway in New Jersey, began writing for the paper soon after and became editor in 1950.
His daughter, Corrine, said Tuesday the sluggish economy has made it too difficult for her to continue the publication. She called NSSN an integral part of the Economaki family for its entire 76-year run.
The online version of the newspaper will continue and provide daily news.

One of those things that you knew was coming but still hits hard when the confirmation of no more issues. Chris helped give me a start in '05 and even for just a few years ('05-'08) was well worth it. That's just a mere fraction of what NSSN gave to motorsports community. Tough news.

For years I remember looking forward to SSN delivery every Tuesday. I also have a fond memory of having Chris join two buddies and I for dinner one night at the Pine Isle Lodge when we attended the Runoffs at Road Atlanta...RIP NSSN...we will miss you.
life is always a crisis, for without crisis, there would be no excitement to life.
