Sorry, this is not stupid decision. Current system with top 10 can work in WRC where you have 11 WRC cars. But in ERC on most of the events you have 20-30 R5 cars and only top 10 for points is not enough. It is not only motivation for drivers like Nobre, Al-Rashed and Von Thurn und Taxis, but also some other top drivers. Especially on events with strong entry lists...

+1. You also have to take a look at the current state of the sport. In WRC it wouldn't make sense right now, in ERC it does. Currently the average amount of R5 cars is nearing 25 per event. 10 years ago there weren't so many top-class (S2000) cars. Also for the sub-top drivers it's a good thing, don't forget those are mostly relying on sponsors as well. It's easier to make sponsors happy if you finish for example 8th when the first 15 are getting points, than when you're 8th and one of the last point-scorers and don't make a visible progress in the championship. It's all about perception, and it doesn't hurt the top drivers, although it'll be a bit more punishing to drivers who crash a lot.

RE Filip Mares
31 competitors to challenge for gold FIA Motorsport Games Digital Cup which will be held in Rome and at the nearby Vallelunga Circuit from 1-3 November.
In addition to the 22 National Sporting Authorities that formed the initial influx of entries, a further nine digital racers have committed to the inaugural edition of the multidisciplinary motorsport event.
The Czech Republic will field a competitor with an unusual background in the shape of accomplished rally driver Filip Mareš. Driving a Skoda Fabia R5, the 27-year-old is a front-runner in the FIA European Rally Championship where he currently sits fourth in the standings, with second spot at his home round of the series being his best result.#M-SPORTER
