So who goes next? I'm happy to defer to Cozzie on the grounds that theugsquirrel's answer to ChrisS's question was 'Not the answer ChrisS was looking for'... and besides, I'm overseas only only intermittant web access during that time.

Ummm if I am free to go next, here is the question:
In 1986 one frustrated driver claimed his car was "About as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle".
Who was the driver quoted and what car was he talking about?

Keke Rosberg. Mclaren MP4/2C. It understeered like a pig on occasions.

Sounds like the sort of thing he'd say.

Or Allen Berg. Not that he was outspoken, but it's a fair description of the 86 Osella.

It was pretty much a guess, based on the knowledge that:

1 Jonesy calls a spade a bloody shovel.

2 The Lola was more likely to go "woof" than "vroom".

Okay - a teaser. What does "backing into a garage" have to do with a multi-talented driver who took part in 15 WDC races and started his circuit racing career in an Austin 7 at Donington Park in 1935?

Over the years, he must have backed his racing cars into his Ford garage at Smethwick, what... hundreds of times?

And in the end, what a terrible tragedy Ardmore was. 40 years old... too young.

You got the man, but only half the answer. Nothing to do with Smethwick.
