Black Sorrows to Rock The Island
Black Sorrows Revved Up To Rock The GMC MotoGP At Phillip Island
With an all-Aussie podium at Phillip Island a genuine possibility, sports fans need little more reason to head to the 2007 GMC Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.
But in a boon for race-goers, organisers announced today that legendary Aussie musician, Joe Camilleri, would perform the national anthem just prior to the main race on Sunday, 14 October.
The band he founded and heads up – The Black Sorrows - will also perform a concert for spectators at the conclusion of the MotoGP race.
Strong advance ticket sales have set the scene for a massive weekend and the addition of The Black Sorrows to the entertainment line-up will provide a touch of classic Aussie music to the international event.
“People from across the country are preparing to storm the Island to witness our three home-grown MotoGP heroes take on the world’s best,” said Drew Ward, CEO of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation.
“The Black Sorrows are one of the most enduring and talented musical ensembles this country has ever produced. Their unique brand of music, led by Joe Camilleri, will provide a great finale for the spectators at Phillip Island.”
The music of The Black Sorrows is rooted in country, folk, and blues but the band doesn't allow themselves to be stuck in any one genre and flirts seamlessly from one style to another.
Formed in 1983 the Sorrows went on to become one of the most sophisticated ensembles in the country
The band is best remembered for the hits ‘Hold On To Me’, 'Chained to the Wheel' and 'Harley and Rose'
The 2007 GMC Australian Motorcycle takes place at Phillip Island from 12 – 14 October.

That's sure to bring people in there droves to the Island on it's own.
Nothing against the Black Sorrows, but surely the organisers could have got a more up-to-date band than them. Wouldn't have to be the biggest name in town but someone like Dallas Crane or Jebediah would be good.Get off my lawn
