I agree it's nonsense - but how often has that been the case in F1? If the position had been reversed and it had stared raining while everyone was on slicks, would they have forced them all to start without a tyre change?

Portuguese Autosport brought something to the table... the WRC2 crews are using a WRC spec tyre that is harder than the spec Meeke and other CPR runners are using.
Meeke had a big gap to Rossel after stage 3 (20 sec)
at stage 4 had a puncture and now the gap to Rossel is just 2 sec
