Man, that was a bad afternoon for Toyota. From a reasonable position at lunchtime, Meeke dropped 2 places on a penalty, and Tanak is restarting.

I guess Meeke is 4 seconds behind Sordo now. That would be worth chasing, but I wouldn't blame the team if they want Meeke and Latvala to avoid going crazy today.

It's like a different rally from now on, all slow (except El Condor beginning) and partly very rough. And all three stages today are driven uphill, which could lead into overheating problems.

Ogier is not a six-time World Champion for nothing. He never gives up, is ruthless and will fight like a hyena for every possible little advantage that he can gain, both on the stage and off it. I like that. He has more F1 mentality than the usually more gentlemanly WRC drivers. Especially after the VW time this trait has really come to the fore big time, when he has to really fight hard for his titles. Loeb is still the greatest for me, but let's keep in mind Ogier has packed six in a row in an era that is far more competitive than Loeb's Championship years were. If the Age of Sebs ends before Ogier retires, whoever ends it will have really had to work for it.

While I kind of agree, with latvala and Tanak in the points I think it would be a shame not to allow Kris to fight for third, given the bad luck he's had so far he has deserved at least one podium this year.

And Kris is 1.2 behind sordo, 7.2 behind Ogier.

TGR in general is riddled with alternator issues throughout their racing genres... I think they need a new supplier but politics are strong.... LeMans car had alternator failure along with many circuit racing cars during testing... Pity

In Mexico J. Porter was saying that (all) WRC cars turn off the alternator in stagemode so that they don't reduce engine power. Somehow i don't get how that fits with Tanak "loosing charge" on SS13?

I get that if he couldn't charge between SS13 and SS14 and started SS14 with weak battery he then retired, but they said he started loosing charge in the middle of SS13.

    -------------
Btw. another car that always seemed to have alternator issues was Peugeot 207 S2000.

Not so sure about that, the batteries in these cars are so tiny, and that car, once it is started (again, huge amount of power) is a big consumer itself, not to mention nightstages, where there are massive amounts of additonal lighting fitted (some still use halogens i believe? in any case, consumption is high, several hundred watts)+ ofc FIA and All live equipment. Going 50 km on a batterie with this i can`t imagine...
Maybe there is an option, to get that "extra boost", on some shorter stages?

you are right, you cant compete at a 20-30-40km stage without alternator charging the battery.
but you can tune through the ecu to ''neutralise'' the alternator at given circumstances through the stage/or road
