    Roger Albert Clark rally 2017

    http://racrally.org/roger-albert-clark-rally/index

The "other" big rally in the UK, now a bi-annual event takes place this weekend and breaks with tradition once more in that it tackles some Welsh woods on the first day before moving to it's more traditional haunts of Keilder and the South Scottish forests. As this event is ostensibly for historic vehicles there is a transit section between Wales and the North however it will still be a marathon event.

Although there aren't necessarily the "star" names of previous runnings, the cream of UK historic rallying will be present along with a good amount of overseas crews and for the first time 4wd cars.

Weather forecast at the moment looks favourable if a little cold at times so looking forward to a great rally.

Longest stage rally in the UK since the 1995 Network Q RAC Rally.....

Always think it's a shame it rarely attracts the big historic entry the continental events seem to do. However, should be a great event.

After the cancellation/postponement of the last running this new format and bi-annual nature will hopefully see further interest. There were some top overseas crews like Bernard Munster etc entered early doors however they have dropped off the list for whatever reason. There looks like always being an issue of potential clashes with the Silver Fern and Safari as these are big undertakings however the inclusion of a fresh challenge of some Welsh woods will hopefully see more interest in two years time.

Just seen on BRF the car park opening times; and the instruction of NO overnight parking.

Plenty of open spots nearby if you judiciously use an OS map. Kielder in particular is awash with FC carparks.
No holiday left this year but for the 2019 running I shall be officially retired and intend to follow the whole event ( re-living 1978!)

Yes, there's plenty of picnic sites suitable for parking all over Kielder...

Which is why I said I'd be following in 2019 (don't realistically expect it will go back to being an annual event)
Next year is the Bath RAC Lombard event which will not be as serious at the Roger Albert (at early sight) but if the Stig turns up it'll be good (maybe Hannu and Ari can be persuaded!)

Only doing Saturday this time around with lack of leave and family illness meaning this is all the time I can spare. Should get a good 3 stages in without much hassle though and the weather looks a little nicer than the last time I was in Keilder! Rally tends to attract a slightly more "mature" crowd than WRGB so hopefully less air horns and trash as a result. Really cant understand that aspect as never left anything behind when I used to follow the Lombard.
