I'm nearly sure I will be called controversial or silly or whatever after posting this, but I think this event should be the last nail in the coffin of such rallies. In my opinion it makes no sense to organize such rallies. What sense does it make to buy a car worth 250 000 E and ruin it in the sand? It's hard to call it a sports competition, it's just waiting who retires next.
I've collected some comments from the drivers. Do you enjoy such rallying?
Problems reported at the finish line:
technical issue
technical issue - gearbox
technical issue with gearbox transmission
technical issue with suspension
technical issue with gear shifting - stucked in the 2nd gear
technical issue - broken radiator
Zero car has technical issues
stalled engine
puncture
went into a ditch
went off
retired
Some comments from the drivers:
We were a bit too careful at some points because of the stones.
I am pretty surprised about the state of the stage. We were lucky that we had no damage, there were lots of stones so I will carry on being cautious while driving in the deep sand and over bumps so that I do not damage the car.
the road was quite damaged, more rocks were coming out.
It is not better, it is worse. It is too sandy, no grip, there were rocks coming out.
I am trying to drive carefully.
I had several big moments because there were a lot of stones in gravel, behind the bridge and lots of dust.

Kajto wants to re-start the rally tomorrow:
Our job is beautiful, although sometimes we go from one extreme to another. Two weeks ago we enjoyed beautiful moments, winning Acropolis Rally. Before coming to Cyprus I had known that this would be a huge challenge. We have good pace this season but it is just not possible to foresee everything at such high level. I would like to thank my team for their support and the same goes to our fans and partners. You can be sure that I will never give up. Tomorrow we are back in fight.http://www.rallymadness.prv.pl - rally photos and movies!

These events are not too rough ať all. That is pure nonsense. The problem Is terribly week entry lists. That's all.
Otherwise You can put Barum in the same group. That's another one of high atrition events. Some years back even such short event as Rally Kopna, which is held on Barum stages, had around 50% retirements on 70 km! Actually with modern cars the situation Is way better than it used to be!

Because the promoter of the championship did a shitty job and in case od Cyprus also because od the island location and bad date.
It helps nothing to address wrong reasons. R5 are way more durable than gr.N which were main cars in ERC until 2007 and they are not less durable than wrc around 2000 when they were allowed in ERC. Same can be said about 2wd. It wasn't any better in the past.

Putting Cyprus directly after Acropolis was a very bad decision by FIA, even if it saved some money for the few international starters.
Now ERC lost some reputation again.
EDIT: And still too many island or perphery events, now 4 in a row before first rally on European main land.Last edited by WUff1; 17th June 2017 at 19:53.
