Kajetanowicz: damaged bottom of the car
    Gryazin: brake issues
von Thurn und Taxis: technical issue - gearbox shifting with clutch
Denktaş Rauf: technical issues - power loss
Savva: puncture - front right wheel

Thanks, it makes a lot of sense. I crashed in similar circumstances a few years ago too, just looking at the guy with the OK sign rather than listening to my navigator.

So, I was discussing the topic we were talking last night with drivers and codrivers (and engineers) here. Of course R5 cars are not so strong like S2000 or RRC, because lot of parts is from serial production. Cyprus Rally is more rough than Sardegna or Acropolis. Everybody talks that the biggest difficulty is to be able to read the road correctly. Type of gravel is changing very quickly and it is difficult to recognize if in next corner will be hard gravel with big stones or sand with big ruts. Also, road is changing not only after recce, but after run of each car. That is why local drivers or Nasser are so strong - they have experience and they know how to read the road - where you can push, where you must slow down, where you should go out of ruts. It is like cross country or Dakar - not so much about pacenotes, but about reading the road. Usual ERC drivers are used to use standard pacenotes and on gravel follow the lines of previous cars. But here in Cyprus you need to do it your way sometimes.

That Gryazin's case looks like too low ride height for the conditions. Of course car with higher setup is less stable and somewhat slower but it has better survivability. Remember in the past IRC/ERC Škoda worksteam always run the highest possible setup on rough rallies and they kept winning them rather easily. Also Nasser used Fabia last year and he did not have issues like that.

Of course. As Dimviii already pointed out. There is nothing that special about such sandy surface. Rallies in middle east, in Africa or South America have often similar conditions and it's totally normal to run rallies there.

These events are good to remember the basic rule saying that to finish first you first have to finish.

Yeah, by name. But more like Paris-Dakar, like Pluto says. To me it doesn´t belong to ERC or WRC.

you can think whatever you want, but when for decades managed to finish N4 cars at this really hard surface rally, its most to driver and car preparation that some cant finish the rally.
As some said,Barum needs special suspension set-up,Monte you have to run a snow stage with dry slicks,Cyprus you need to have a different suspension setup, and different driver approach.
Rally basics rules I d say, nothing more or less.
