Road position today imo. He even said it in an interview. Al Quassimi and Sordo in front of him have completely different lines + road cleaning. He was leading until the crash on SS4 and also friday afternoon did good times without any motivation.
Leg 2:

He beat Sordo by 1:47. He is second M-sport point scorer and now they have a chance to extend their lead in championship. If he went full push and was 20s quicker (Lappi speed) it wouldn't change anything in the standings anyway with possibly much more risk, so as a team boss I'd be very happy with him.

You're right, I would probably add Suninen, Breen & Evans to this list, not shining as Toyota drivers but both deserve some credit - Suninen 2nd in his only 2nd wrc collecting some stage wins on the way, Breen for doing so well with the car he has, and being in front of Neuville right now, Evans for his impressive progress on this surface.
They are so many, can't pick one."With that car, your brain can actually never keep up"

Hanninen has not faired well when under pressure. I think Sunninen will take second and Evans third even though I would love to see Hanninen on the podium.

Suninen or Lappi for me ( in that order).
As mentioned Latvala drove this a million times and won 3 times.
Lappi very good but car obviously works very well (using Hanninen as reference), and the team is based here and it's where Lappi could drive the car most.
For Suninen it's second event and he had only limited test close to the rally after Ogier wrecked the car, if he gets second place I'd definitely pick him.

On Latvala onboard from the retirement there is some sharp impact on the corner just before loosing power (4:38 in). Could have contributed.
I dont think that Hyundai can risk Mikkelsen instead of Lappi in Poland. They should bring 4 cars
