    interesting

"The start of the rally, in very awkward conditions, was fairly difficult for us. Due to a problem that was beyond the team's control, we were unable to use the gearbox and differential settings that had been validated during our tests. M-Sport did everything possible to help us find the best compromise, but it still meant we had to make do with a less than optimal solution, particularly in the slippery and treacherous conditions of the first day."

My second time at Rallye Deutschland and my first experience of the new WRC cars. We did three stages on Day 1, and two stages plus service on day 2. Very enjoyable, despite getting soaked to the skin on Mittelmosel 2! My boots were still soaking next morning when I pulled them on...

Very impressed with Tanak, Mikkelsen and Hanninen, all of them improved their reputation with their performances over the weekend.

Photos will be on my flickr later in the week but here are a few I am happy with...

I went for 3 days (Friday till Sunday).
    Friday
    Grafschaft 1
A place where we could see the cars for several kilometers before coming to where we were. A jump with a fast corner and a dip after it. Citroëns clearly unstable compared to all other WRC and even R5 cars.

    Mittelmosel 2
In the rain, a fast right hander with a big cut. Some hot moments for Mikkelsen, Suninen and a lot of the runners further down.

    Saturday
    Panzerplatte 1
Very fast left with a big cut, then double right. Latvala sideways and very deep in the cut. The Toyotas looked quickest there. Nothing special but very impressive and fast, we left after a couple of R5 cars.

    Freisen 1
We were standing in a fast left hander, unfortunatly they placed haybales in all cuts... A lot of the top cars hit them, loosing wings and mirrors. Spectators almost starting fighting over them... We heared cars struggling some corners before, so walked along the stage to find the place. Almost everyone went in to the field there, in a muddy corner. Quite a nice place, spins for Bonato, Peiniazek, Lario...

    Panzerplatte 2
Medium fast double left hander. The surface changed mid corner from the typical concrete to slippy asphalt. The WRCs were quite tidy there, but the R5 cars were very very sideways! We had to leave after +-5 R5s

    Freisen 2
Went to the same spot but continued to the muddy corner. If course it already dried out quite a bit. Mikkelsen very fast and spectacular. Gassner Sr changed a puncture in front of us.

    Sunday
    Powerstage 1 (forgot the name)
We had recced the stage the evening before, but it was totally ruined by haybales in every possible cut (except 1). So we went to the place with no haybale. The didn't had a lot of speed coming there, but still the WRCs moved quite a lot. Had a nice overview afterwards too. Molle with an excursion through a field. Gave me the opportunity to wave at the codriver who is a friend of mine when I was going to push them out of the field

    Powerstage 2
Downhill left - right over a bridge, followed by another fast right. Ok place, nothing special to end the rally with.

All in all we saw a good rally. Haybales, strict marshalls and a lot of closed roads far from the stage ruined it a bit on some places. And if course, very disappointed for Neuville...

Something I forgot to mention in my "report". Talked to several groups of French spectators. They all seemed to hate Ogier... He is really not popular in France I think.

Yes. We were there, they were ok, shaken but ok. Scary crash indeed, started to burn straight away.

Well he accused Loeb of not playing fair and left Citroen to crush them with a german car... and now again with english/american one.

Perhaps extra reason to come back to Citroen and rescue them

The biggest group in Germany was the Thierry fan club crew. Hundreds of them walking around with hats and shirts.

Tanak fans are always in full effect and the most entertaining with their viking blow horns and large flags. It's always nice to see spectators from all over the world so passionately involved.
