I dont believe Ogier wants Tanak to drop out of contention. He needs him to stay motivated to get good results. Nothing in his past indicates he can be a serious title-challenger yet.
In this rally Tanak can still take points off Neuville if he has a problem so Ogier needs him to stay close enough to do so.

I find it hard to believe that a driver who hasn't even won a wrc event yet would lack motivation to get good results, even if he drops further out of contention in the overall championship standings....
Seb looks to have been gifted a win because of Ott's mistake, so I'm sure he's delighted. As things stand he's about to take more pts out of Neuville and Latvala than before Tanak cracked..Last edited by er88; 20th May 2017 at 14:00.

Ott Tänak (5th) said:
“We were having a really good morning and the car felt really good. We were pushing for sure, but also fairly comfortable at the pace we were setting. Unfortunately, we just had some understeer under braking [on SS12] and hit the bank on the outside.
“We damaged the suspension and lost the brakes which made it pretty difficult through the closing kilometres and cost us a lot of time. But what can you do? We just have to pick ourselves up and focus on the next loop.
“We need to do the same job as we did this morning. Get everything fixed, make a good tyre choice, get back into the same rhythm, and see what we can do.”

"We are second but a bit too far from first place, we tried to follow but we did not have traction in the first two stages this Saturday, it was a big attack this morning, I tried to be More cautious and more effective in the twelfth special stage, and we have a hard time keeping track of the Ford cars on the pitch, they are faster than us, frankly, I have given everything but they are able to dig, "he said. Belgian driver on the arrival of the ES12.And to add, about the afternoon. "We're going to try to make some adjustments this afternoon and see if we can get closer." Obviously, we'll have to agree not to go and look for Ogier. The whole thing is to stay in touch with Ogier and stay in front of Sordo, "concluded Neuville at our microphone.
