Clean ice = very good grip, if you're using studs obviously. In that case, you'd benefit from running first. The more cars that passes by that ice layer will eventually tear.

But should there be snow covering it, the first cars will sweep away the snow and the later cars will get to use the ice more.

You don't need to be. Probably I have missed the point made to a less important "stuff" for the sport.

I wanted to confirm the results I was seeing because they seemed odd. Indeed, I was getting wrong info. The gaps are much bigger. Top 10 spread over more than 3 min.

About toyota my opinion remains the same, a village nationalistic team of assorted nobodies with no future in this sport.
I agree with that apart from the last sentence.

The car is clearly good, probably better than we all thought, but it's too early to say how good.

The all-Finn driver lineup looks a bit dodgy but they're all good drivers and apart from that Makinen hired experienced former MSport guys to design the car.

    More
There has been 1-2cm of overnight snow but the first stage is relatively clean - so @ElfynEvans has gone with five DMACK DMG-ICE2 tyres

I can understand that from some reason a generally good car/driver combination does not perform in on snow. But I couldn't find how a dog of a car would be up there on a fast, bumpy, camber changing roads.

Please tell some technical reason why it can be like this...
