I wonder how much is mind games. Has Dakar ever been won with a forward engine 2wd vehicle?

Been trying to see where the engine is mounted from all the pics,
Whatever the configuration, knowing Glynn Hall he does everything for a reason and I have no doubt it will be very competitive.
At least it still looks like a Hilux, unlike some present cars (Buggies)

From the article: The engine and transmission are relocated between the axles.
Since it's big V8 I don't think it can be placed in front behind the front axle but maybe I am wrong.Stupid is as stupid does. Forrest Gump

Probably not overly difficult to move the v8 engine in the spaceframe Hilux. Hopefully Dakar does not have a mud bath day, like this year.
The Toyota V8 engine is used in the NZV8 Toyota Camry space frame 2wd rear drive touring cars. The engine is well back with a TTI sequential gearbox coupled to it.

Toyota are also getting back into desert racing in the US with former Dakar driver BJ Baldwin - V8 and rear wheel drive

They are quoted as saying "Atkinson Cycle V8 engine" from Lexus, is this the same power unit you are talking about?

I think Peugeot will continue to have it as a 2008, but since it's a silhouette car, it wouldn't be hard to rebrand it to a 3008.
On a different note, a couple of weeks ago there was an interview with Jean-Claude Vaucard on rallye-sport.fr: http://www.rallye-sport.fr/jean-clau...de-sport-auto/
He said that Peugeot hired him again after the 2015 Dakar. He was there for a month, and gave them a list of what to change on the car. They did 80% of that for 2016 and they won; the rest is supposed to come this year. After all, not too surprising given the fact he had a lot to do with the 205 T16, Xsara Kit Car, Xsara WRC, C4 WRC and VW Race Touareg 2...
Edit: looks like I was wrong, it will be 3008 this year.
