Before the puncture the first few stages were pretty good. On his first 4wd asphalt event to be in the ballpark with decent local guys like Valousek, Cerny and Tarabus and ahead of Kreim (who has been rallying a Fabia R5 on asphalt all year) I think is pretty respectable.

It was his first start on tarmac with 4WD. Stages on Barum are very difficult. He lost some time because of puncture. But he was doing good rally, comparing to his experience.

Didn't Sirmacis do that in the Acropolis Rally? He stepped in and drove directly with the best in hist first gravel rally with Fabia R5.
I guess after this result my expectations were a little too high. Of course, I didn't expect him to win Barum, but I also didn't expect him to be 15th.

I wish him good luck in Liepaja!

Difference is that he "grew up" on gravel, not on tarmac.
Also the level of competition is not comparable.

I think he did a good job at the beginning of the rally, but didn't improve afterwards, quite the opposite...

Acropolis is gravel still and also that was a bit of luck. We have no local tarmac stages in latvia, so all his experience on tarmac are foreign events, most of them with r2 cars. Also, punctures happena anf with so competitive field, even 15th was not so far away in timescale.

Jarek, I have seen a lot of drivers on Barum for their first time and Ralfs was definitely good, especially considering it was his first ever asphalt event with 4WD car. He wasn't astonishing but only very few were.

Compared him with Neuville his first Barum (207 S2000) in 2010:
Neuville was 7th after 3 stages, 0,7s/km behind leader Kopecky. Then crashed on SS4.
Sirmacis was 9th after 3 stages, 0,63s/km behind leader... Kopecky.

So as a non asfalt driver, not bad at all
