You say excuses, some would say reasons.

He's managed to do 3 WRC events without incident to lie 2nd in the Championship, this terrible driver...

If he crashes he's criticised, if he doesnt he's called slow, if he answers a question honestly he's called a moaner ...

Some dont like him and thats all there is to it.

People were critical against him because he blamed a brake fault in an accident which doesn't look like a brake failure. Same happened with Kubica when he blamed brake failure in his crash in RMC 2015. He is a professional WRC factory driver and must be able to cope with criticism if he doesn't deliver. Such is life.

Anyway if You search for ridiculous excuses why he didn't beat amateur drivers with private cars it's You who play the success of said drivers down. That's not fair as they didn't have any advantages over Ostberg, quite the opposite. Why not to just admit that they managed the rally better? That's all. That's no bashing but stating the truth.

I'm still here because I never had a brake failure, but how actually a brake failure looks like? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd imagine that that kind of failure would cause no brakes at all but maybe also the opposite where the brakes would be stuck and all wheels would be locked?
On the other hand I think in most of the cases it would be the driver's fault who overheats brakes and causes their failure. And from what Mads was saying he knew that the brakes were getting overheated, but he took the risk to keep driving fast and well, brakes failed and they crashed. End of story.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't overheating of brakes and self locking of brakes an oxymoron?

I'm not the biggest fan of Mads but I will defend him a little here.. although he hinted it may have been brake failure, he didn't explicitly say it was. He also seemed to respect his competitors.

He said he would like to come back to Canarias and/or ERC and that would be a good thing - he did add to the interest on this rally. Ypres or Barum would be a good one to try if he's feeling brave

Without any doubts, Mads is top driver and should make interesting every rally where he will start. In any championship.
