Took a look at pictures. This looks serious. For example looking at the impact on the car the side mirror is gone. The only question is how far into the cockpit did the damaging force get. But it is impossible to know right now.
I wouldn't be surprised if we started discussing about canopies again after this one.

I would be upset if there were any serious head injury consequences to this as I have believed for some time there MUST be some sort of protection, a structure between cockpit and roll-hoop maybe, put in place. I think F1 has been perilously pushing it's luck for a long time in this area.

I dare say that a canopy in this incident would do far more damage with it being shattered and potentially bigger jagged bits being a real problem.
or the canopy getting pinned down and unable to open. an F1 canopy is a different thing from a le mans car, and plenty of time will have to go into testing etc
so far, its seems to be a freak incident and one that can never really be fully prepared for.
i hope he is ok and will make a full recovery
only time will tell, sighyou can't argue with results.

I do think that F1 drivers heads are exposed to more danger than anything else. And this is the area where we are likely to get most serious accidents. Also recalling Massa in 2009.
But you are right that a freak accident is a freak accident and can happy with any kind of safety measure.

There is a series of photographs of the crash scene on the Getty Images website which show the extent of the damage to the car.
I hope this isn't as bad as it looks. Fingers crossed for Jules Bianchi.

If not canopies, then safety cars whenever a recovery vehicle is trackside of the fence, at very least in wet races
"I" before "E" except after "C". Weird.
As everyone are shifting to SUV's nowadays we might as well start calling them "cars". Sent from my M2012K11G using Tapatalk
