Most likely this is the secondary reason. The primary is to raise revenue. I know it is here.

Pay the $90.00 USD mate, and consider yourself lucky. In San Diego you would have had your car towed by 9:05. and that whould have cost $275.00 to get out of impound the same day, plus the cost of the ticket!!

Correct, just around the corner to Ealing Common Station.

The only thing I could possibly claim is the parking restrictions change about 50 yards down the road. On the entrance to the road the first sign says Monday to Friday 1 hour parking, then there is a small section of double yellows, then the residential parking starts.

Write a letter. Plead. Apologise profusely and state that you will never EVER do this again.

You have several options here. The best by far is closed to you if you really are called Jon Brown because it involves claiming to be new to the UK and being completely ignorant of British parking laws. That has worked well for my wife for over a decade.

Come up with a plausible sob story, don't lay it on too thick and avoid anything that makes you sound unreasonable or arrogant. Don't mention your job or claim that you were working late etc. Sick babies are good, or else claim your car had trouble starting and you were just finding that charger stored deep in your garage when the warden found your car. State that you left 15 minutes after the time was up and that you weren't planning to park the car past 9 am. An alternative would be to say that you arrived in Ealing in such a state of shock because you found out that your grandmother had just died that you didn't really check where you had parked. Apologise again. You were found parking in an area at a time you weren't allowed to park so pleading ignorance without mitigating factors simply won't work. Another one is to get your girlfriend to claim she was driving the car and sign it with her name if only because girls seem to get treated more leniently than men if they use a sob story.

It probably won't work but ultimately there is a human on the other side reading through and sorting out these letters and they may take pity on your soul... Also Ealing is relatively lenient, had you been caught in the Borough of Westminster your family would have probably been hunted down and shot by now.

Yes it is. Actually in many places around London parking permits are only needed between 12 and 13:00 to deter commuters parking but allowing shoppers to still park.

Try writing in, swearing blind that you left at 5 to 9 as you know from listening to the News on the car radio. It won't succeed but at least you'll have the satisfaction of knowing the warden will have been carpeted to explain and might get a bollocking for being over-zealous.
