In my, non medical, opinion, I am willing to say there will be no recovery of any note, not one that provides any quality of life. I think in some ways it's almost worse the way this has been dragged out, regardless of what chances there were of recovery when the accident happened. This way he is almost fading out with no fanfare, and will be recorded as having died months or years after the event which ultimately looks like it will kill him.
