    2013 Driver Salary

What are the guesstimates for drive salaries this year??

Kimi seems to be on a lot. 8 million, plus 50k per point bonus which would be close 17 all up. Which makes it unsurprising that Lotus can't really afford him.

How much are the other guys making?

Lot of the guys seem to be quite cheap workers for their teams. Kimi seems to be paying this season out of his own pocket.
Apparently some other guys like Hulkenberg are missing paychecks for this season.

I remember Lotus had financial difficulties in 2012 partly because they did not expect Kimi to score so many points. In the end, the team went from zero to hero and he was third in the driver's championship in 2012, and he is still third today before the Abu Dhabi race. The funny thing is, Vettel was said to be paid in 2010-11 the same paltry 8 million a year (I don't know if there were any bonuses). RBR does not spoil its drivers with money like Ferrari or some others.

I saw an article in crash.net recently. What I remember is:

    -Alonso, Hamilton - 20 mln
    -Rosberg, Vetel - 12 mln
    -Webber 11mln
    Massa 6 mln
    Kimi 3mln
    Grojan 1,5mln

of course they have large bonuses for points too

The interesting thing is that the pay to the drivers outside of the best 10 of them (subjectively speaking, not by points), falls off pretty sharply, and "ordinary" drivers from STR and Force India could be getting paid a couple hundred grand. Some fresh drivers from Marussia or HRT could be paid less than that, if at all (nevermind their seat in F3 probably cost more years ago).

Crazy that Vettel earns almost half of what Fernando and Lewis do So much for the best being remunerated accordingly!

    Re: 2013 Driver Salary

I think Kimi's salary problems at Lotus derive from him having a performance-based contract, which sees him earning most of the money based on results/points. However, the problem for Lotus is that this deal was signed in 2011 on the back of a difficult season for the Lotus/Renault team and Kimi has been collecting way more points than Lotus expected. I think in 2012 they somehow managed to pay him, but not in 2013 any more.

207 points last year, so far this year 183. I don't know, how much did they reasonably expect in late 2011 - around 100 pts per year? No wonder Kimi pondered about quitting participation in the last two races. Why go and collect points if you don't get the pay based on them anyway any more?

If Kimi does not show up for the last two races. It will be interesting to see another driver in an F1 race this season.
