    2014 Silly season

    News already coming in:

GoDaddy will not return to IndyCar as a primary sponsor
James Hinchliffe could be without a sponsor

“I can’t speak for them as a company, but times have changed a little bit for them; they’re a company that relies heavily on television and they measure their return on investment based on TV,” which the IRl ain't got

IndyCar Series monitoring Brazil situation, working on alternatives

Reports surrounding the likely cancellation of the Sao Paulo Indy 300 street race continue to filter north from Brazil, and while RACER has confirmed the event has yet to be canceled, “Where there's smoke, there's fire,” said one series official with knowledge of the situation.

The Sao Paulo street race, which made its debut in 2010 around the Anhembi park and exhibition center, has been the subject of numerous questions regarding its continuation on the IndyCar calendar.

Everything from a possible construction project interfering with the 2014 date to the race's Brazilian promoter (and TV broadcaster) Bandeirantes wanting to abandon the event to save money has been mentioned as reasons for shuttering IndyCar's lone flyaway race, and with the series close to finalizing its schedule for next year, resolving the Sao Paulo situation has become a high priority.

I understand condensing, but whoever thought that Houston in late June was a good idea, is about to have a hell of a lot of questions to answer , when drivers and pit crew are dropping in the heat.

Isn't Houston a night race in 2014?, I'm not saying it is cool at night during June, but it will help, hopefully qualis will also be during the night time, June is mighty humid around here, it took me almost 5 years to get use to it.

That means they've got a five year contract to get used to it?

Not TV viewers, they mostly go, and prime sponsors as well.

IndyCar posts lowest-ever viewership on NBCSN. Avg cable viewership per race (228K) down 64% since '08 (778K).

IndyCar Series Sees TV Viewership Down 22%, Including Lowest NBCSN Audience Yet

The Izod IndyCar Series saw its viewership drop 22% for 19 race telecasts across ABC and NBCSN compared to 15 telecasts last season.

Honda wants IndyCar officials to find new engine suppliers
    October 14, 2013

Honda wants at least one more engine manufacturer in the IndyCar Series. And you can be that series officials will try to comply with the Japanese auto maker’s desire.

After Lotus pulled out following last season, Honda and Chevrolet became the only engine makers left in the open-wheel series.

Supplying engines for half the IndyCar field is more than Honda officials bargained for. Series officials limit the amount Honda and Chevy can charge for an engine lease at $695,000. Honda and Chevy officials say that’s well below what they spend to design, develop and make the race engines.

“When you’ve got seven or eight cars and you’re subsidizing them, that’s one thing. But when you’ve got 12 or 13 or 14 and you’re subsidizing them, that’s completely different, and it’s hard for all of us to continue to maintain that level of subsidy,” Honda Performance Development technical director Roger Griffiths told Autosport.
