    Complete domination

The talk about Loeb possibly being the best driver of all time and having a total stranglehold over the WRC, and also the thread about the best and closest battles, got me thinking. What are the best examples of complete and utter domination in world rallying, either by teams or drivers, over the years?

The one that springs most readily to my mind is the 1983 Tour de Corse. This was the debut of the Quattro A2, which was intended to be better on tarmac than the original, and of the Manta 400, but neither was in with a prayer. Instead, Corsica witnessed domination by the Lancia 037s on an incredible scale. They took the first four places (another works car retired), and the fourth of those cars was almost half an hour ahead of the nearest 'challenger', Bruno Saby's Renault 5 Turbo. They had already gone miles ahead of the Audis and Jean Ragnotti's Renault before they went out, and as for Tony Pond, the narration (by David Icke, incidentally) on the BBC highlights said it all: "Even a new Nissan 240RS would be out of its class here — and he's driving an old one! Still, he's driving superbly. Aggressive, spectacular; a tremendous effort."

So, which other dominant performances do other people recall?

Absolutely. His first Safari win in particular was sensational. It changed the whole character of the event in terms of the way it needed to be driven in order to win it.

Well, was it 2005 or 2006 when Loeb won all the stages at Corsica?
