2nd leg looked like a Sunday tour. Nobody pushed hard and the only (sad) surprise came from Moura’s (Fiesta) retirement. A damn steering joint ended the Azorian champ hopes for a win, giving Meireles (Fabia) the chance to begin the season with a victory. Behind Meireles arrived Fontes (DS3), Barros (Fiesta), Meireles older brother Paulo (also in a Fabia) and two of the most impressive drivers of this rally: Teodósio (Gr.N winner on a Evo X) and Mesquita (Fabia S2000), doing his first rally on a 4wd machine. 2wd winner was Antunes (208) in “Ogier mode”: no mistakes and always fast. Gravel cup winner was Merceano (Evo VIII).

It was a nice season start, but if Moura doesn’t run the whole series and guys like Campos or Adruzilo won’t joint it, probably CNR title will be (again) decided between Fontes and Meireles…Gr.N and 2wd are clearly more competitive this year and some nice battles are also expected on rally’s to come.

Btw, overall the public was in good places but Montim stage is always problematic. It’s a short SS with easy accesses and lots of people that think they’re safe on those small gravel banks. Organizers usually close their eyes but they were very lucky that Lopez didn’t hit anyone after the jump. They’re now warned that this can’t happen again.

2nd round of CNR this weekend: Rali de Castelo Branco (tarmac). Less R5's than in Fafe but a nice fight is expected between Fontes (DS3) and last year winner Barros (Fiesta), with Meireles (Fabia) and Vieira (DS3) hopefully close to them. 2wd and Gr.N also interesting to follow.

Nice fight at Rali de Castelo Branco. First day ended with Fontes, Barros and Vieira split by 4.6s. 1st round winner, Meireles, retired on SS1. Teosósio is leading Gr.N. The spanish Clio crews are ahead on 2wd's and there's also a nice battle on DS3R1 Challenge. Second leg already started: Vieira is in flying mode!
