Not a match to Mexico Rally rollercoaster, still lot’s of suspense on Rali de Castelo Branco. After sharing SS’s wins and rally leadership with team mate and reigning champ J.P.Fontes, Carlos Vieira entered the last SS just 1s behind, but Fontes pushed hard, avoiding Vieira’s first CNR win. João Barros (Fiesta) was a serious competitor for the DS duo yesterday, but he steadily loose time during today stages. Ricardo Teodósio (EvoX) was again the best Gr.N and despite a hard battle between Pedro Antunes (208R2) and Paulo Neto (DS3R3), the Spanish Clio R3T crews were unbeatable on 2wd category. The young Diogo Soares did a remarkable job in DS3R1 Challenge, beating the experienced Miguel Barbosa and João Ruivo, both returning to rally through this trophy. Tarmac Cup was won by Fernando Teotónio on a Evo VII. Hugo Mesquita (Fabia S2000), Miguel Carvalho (C2R2) and Daniel Nunes (208R2) pace impressed again, but they didn’t manage to finish the event.

After Açores Rally (round 3), Barros (P3 in Açores CNR classification) is now leading the series, ahead of Fontes and Meireles (P2 in Açores). Despite their amazing show, is not known when Açores winner Magalhães and his main competitor Moura will return to CNR. Pedro Antunes (208 R2), did a remarkable 1st leg (overall always the fastest after Opel Euro drivers), but punctures and one off took him any chance to win 2wd national class. Gil Antunes (Clio) eventually won it, ahead of local guy Botelho (DS3). Gr.N was won by Pedro Sá (Evo IX), after Teodósio unlucky last stage retirement. Pedro Antunes and Teodósio are still leading their class championships.

    Top 10 CNR Açores:
    1. Bruno Magalhães/Hugo Magalhães – Fabia R5 2h37m04.3s
    2. Pedro Meireles/Mário Castro – Fabia R5 +7m29.7s
    3. João Barros/Jorge Henriques - Fiesta R5 +9m06.6s
    4. Carlos Vieira/Jorge Carvalho – DS3 R5 +9m18.7s
    5. Miguel Barbosa/Miguel Ramalho - Fabia R5 +11m36.4s
    6. Manuel Castro/Luís Castro – i20 R5 +16m02.3s
    7. Joaquim Alvesa/Luís Ramalho – Fiesta R5 +18m17.7s
    8. Gil Antunes/Diogo Correia – Clio R3T +23m48.8s
    9. Rafael Botelho/Rui Raimundo - DS3 R3T +27m47.7s
    10. Pedro Sá/Jorge Antunes - Lancer Evo IX +34m57.3s

Next event will be Rali Casino de Espinho (tarmac), on April 21 and 22.

Just like in WRC: 4 different winners on first 4 CNR rally’s! Carlos Vieira (former racing champ) took his first rally victory by finishing just 4s ahead of Fontes, his team mate and current champ. Vieira and codriver Carvalho lead from SS2 and despite a strong second loop from Fontes/Ponte they’ve managed to resist, getting a totally deserved win. Huge congrats to them!
Barros was unable to fight the DS duo but he’s still on the title discussion. Title chances become smaller for Meireles, retired on SS7 after a discreet rally. Gil Antunes won 2wd category after a close fight with Paulo Neto (DS3 R3), penalized 2m near the end. Also penalized (late at SS1) Ricardo Teodósio started the rally 1m behind and almost managed to recover it, but Carlos Martins didn’t wasted this opportunity to take Gr.N win. Pascoal (911 3.6) won GT class and Antunes (Quattro) the Historic category. Ricardo Costa (Evo IX) dominated Tarmac Cup.

Rali Casino de Espinho - Top 10:
    1. Carlos Vieira/Jorge Carvalho – DS3 R5 1h01m41,0s
    2. José Pedro Fontes/Inês Ponte - DS3 R5 +4,0s
    3. João Barros/Jorge Henriques - Fiesta R5 + 55,9s
    4. Miguel Barbosa/Miguel Ramalho – Fabia R5 +2m17,2s
    5. Joaquim Alves/Luís Ramalho - Fiesta R5 +2m28,9s
    6. Elias Barros/Paulo Babo - Fiesta R5 +3m56,8s
    7. Carlos Martins/Daniel Amaral - Evo X R4 +5m03,6s
    8. Ricardo Teodósio/José Teixeira - Evo X R4 +5m17,2s
    9. Gil Antunes/Diogo Correia - Clio R3T +6m09,0s
    10. Daniel Nunes/Rui Raimundo - 208 R2 +6m36,9s
