    Re: R3 Cars

R3 cars don't have hydraulic gear-shifting. They use pneumatic or electric system. I don't know if that is forbidden for WRC cars too. Citroën is the only one in R3 who keeps using it. Honda/JAS abandoned that because of low reliability of their system.

Thanks for that, I thought they were hydraulic system as the old WRCars. Do you know if Kubica's system is hydraulic (slowed down) or is it similar to the R3T system?

I'm not sure but I think that it's hydraulic for Kubica.

Could M-Sport put the R5 engine into the R2 chassis, and class it as R3T?

What is needed to change on engine and chassis for them to make a R3T Fiesta?

If I understand correctly another year before we see the R3 in action. No word on the R5

An RWD R3 should be entertaining to watch, I hope some other manufacturers will pick up the idea too

Unfortunately, the model is not really suitable for R5 - if Toyota ever wanted to build such a car, they would rather choose a sub-compact.

Technically yes. M-Sport has homologated both the Fiesta R2 (1.6 NA engine) and Fiesta R3T (1.6 turbo engine). By the specific regulations same engine parts can be homologated in both R3T and R5. Pistons, connecting rods, flywheel, crankshaft etc. Not having the homologating regulations there could be some differences in what it means to homologate for an example the pistons. Same weight and materials for both R3T and R5?

The difference between the R3T and R5 is the restrictor size which means different mapping as you probably know. By the specific regulations there’s no different in the chassis of a R2 and R3T except the 5-gear gearbox for R2 and 6-gear gearbox for R3T.

I think M-Sport has been busy with the R5 project and don’t having recourses to develop a R3T yet.

If JWRC switched to R3, what would be the point of WRC3?
