At a guess I would say with Thierry set in concrete at Hyundai he probably thought/thinks he would/will have a better chance developing the car to his liking and have a better stab at the championship.
Which may well of been the case if the Puma didn’t keep having problems.

Agree the move from Toyota seemed a very bad move at the time and retrospectively.

In Toyota he got his Title. After that i think he decided to go after money, Toyota i guess didnt want to pay him that amount he asked for, and Hyundai made better offer + that R2 deal that Tänak and Märtin dealed with. After Adamo quit Hyundai, i think R2 deal with Tänak and Märtin also went bad, so Tänak had no benefits staying Hyundai, and maybe after Adamo they were not agreed with Tänaks salary, so he managed to get himself hired at M-Sport, his salary sponsored by Ford. It is my point of view..

I think departure from Toyota was more a personal thing wasn't it?

yes, money wasnt the problem, as far as i know. He got fed up how Tommi and Mia handled the things there, especially with the money that japanese pumped into the project

When I read all those leaving M-Sport and rejoining Hyundai announcements, I don't see Järveoja mentioned anywhere related to Hyundai...

    From Hyundai announcement:
With a clear intention to compete at the forefront of WRC in 2024, we will field the proven title-winning line-up of Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak in our i20 N Rally1 Hybrid next season. The Estonian, alongside co-driver Martin Järveoja, returns to Alzenau with the goal of adding to the five rally wins he claimed during his previous stint with our team.
