The West is broke and can't help them. The UN is laughable and the EU not much better. Russia and China will be wary, and in reality, probably can't offer too much either. Not to mention, nobody is going to be keen on the idea of protecting the holders of oil wealth just so they can continue to gouge us on oil prices.

As the smaller oil states break down into warlord controlled territories everybody, including the State, will find they have the need to hire skilled men at arms, trained in the use and care of the latest weapontry. Lots of trained soldiers will not be re-enlisting in the armed forces of their countries I think.

No doubt there would be a big spike in oil prices, but once we got it flowing again, prices would go back down.

Indeed, a side benefit might be that the oil would glow in the dark!!!!
