1992 was the year of the heated battle up to the last lap of the last race to decide the Winston Cup Championship. Alan Kulwicki was able to pull it out by just 10 points over Bill Elliott, making it the closest true finish in NASCAR history.

This was one of the seasons I was worried about when I started. And for just the 5th time since 1975 we have a split Championship. Bill Elliott got it done here by just 8 points, giving him his 2nd FIA Cup. This was the second farthest a Winston Cup Champion (Non-Chase) fell in the standings-to P4, 44 points behind the winner.

The Bud Pole Award Winner is Alan Kulwicki with 6 poles.

Congrats to Alan Kulwicki, the 1992 Winston Cup Champion
Congrats to Bill Elliott, the 1992 FIA Cup Champion
