I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news on my car radio.
It was all so unbelievable at the time.

It really is hard for me to even go there!
I was watching an interview with the policeman that broke the news to Yoko at the hospital.
He said she denied it a couple of times verbally, and proceeded to start slamming her head on the floor.
He actually put his hands between the floor and her head to keep her from injuring herself untill she regained some sense of sanity.

John's last album proved he still had his chops, his ability and his voice, but it seemed to me he was a happier and more centered man. A true loss, to lose him just as he appeared to be finding himself after a long time railing against life with anger and suspicion. He wrote some amazing music and did amazing things, but his years with the Beatles and the aftermath were done by a Lennon that hadn't found his comfortzone as a man. Then he found it...and a loon took it a way. I was listening to Monday Night Football on the radio that night when they interrupted to tell us...and it was just sad..

Oddly enough, from what I saw on ESPN the other day, Cosell and the others had Lennon in the booth as a guest... on 9 Dec. 1974.

My folks and I weren't watching MNF when the news came out, as usual, we were probably watching some sitcom. We were taken back by the news of course... more surprising than when Presley passed on (1977?)
