    Latvala was simply rolling. That makes a lot of damage but isn't that dangerous because energy is absorbed step by step in a long time. Also the speed of movement changes very slowly in terms of crash dynamics so the G-load on crew is quite small.

    In case of Turán it was direct hit on the roof which is very dangerous way of crashing as almost all energy of the movement is spent into deformation of roof rollcage structure in a single very short time. Also G-load of crew is much higher. A lot of such crashes ended by fatal injuries in the past.

    Maybe the HANS saved them. I remember San Remo several years ago when a crew landed on the roof and both dead with broken neck.
