It's not a very imaginative route, is it? (Apart from dropping in briefly into Norway). Eleven stages, all repeated. Seems like most organisers are staying with the same itineraries.
Thank goodness for Finland, for trying something different.

Is there a better sound than that of Porsche engined Flat-6 ???

Problem is the organiser want to stay HQ in KArlstad. If they move HQ to better place for instance Falun, ther would be new stages in Dalarna that could be used.

Now there´s no innovation in stages for RS.

Don't cheer out loud just yet. Even if there are plans that most likely hold to take the rally away from Jyväskylä on Friday, Thursday and Saturday stages should be more than familiar. We'll know when the RG1 is out.

Well, there is not too much snow near the stages right now but a huge snowstorm should hit Sweden and Norway on Thursday, early in the morning, very early. If you still lack any snow after that storm then we can send some from Tallinn.. there is over 4 meter high snow-hill right in front of my house, you can take it for free :-P

Really, isn't there good roads in Sweden or what's with the 11 stages repeated scheme every year? The best modern-era WRC snow rallies have been driven in Norway...

2007 Rally Norway had 18 stages, eight of which were only driven once and only five repeated. WRC should really start to limit the amount of repeated stages, for real.

I think the reason is economy. The Värmland region has lots of forest roads, but not all of them are in regular use during winter time. For some of the classic stage roads the organiser knows and has been in cooperation with the owners for many year. some big forest companies sponsors the rally with free road use and also road preparation (snow ploughing etc.).

I do agree with you that it ends up boring with the same stages from year to year. For 2011 FIA actually wanted Rally Sweden to incorporate a full day with stages in the Finnskogen area in Norway. Its a pity they didn`t want that, as the Finnskog roads are fantastic and of a different caracter (more technical) than the stages in Sweden. With remote service at the little community of Svulrya they could have a stage distance of some 150 kms with very little road sections. Instead they chose to run only part of a stage in Norway.

Btw the "Norway stage" has been a classic in the Rally Finnskog (ERC and NRC) for many years. The stage is called Løvhaugen and has a fantastic spectator area when the cars are passing the farm Løvhaugen. There is also a straight with a famous double jump before a junction. Yours truly knows the stage quite well ;-) Codriving Tord Linnerud in a Corolla WRC we managed a stage record in 2005...

Gustavsfors, though relatively short, is new stage. Also power-stage. Will be interesting to see.

It´s said to be quite narrow and demanding with a lot of bends.

But I agree. RS should need a variation in stages.

Last visited Sweden for the 2006 wrc rally and would like to come again, can anyone recommend the best area to stay for easy access to the stages. Last time we stayed in Hallefors but it was a bit out of the way and very quite, there wasn't even a resturant there.
