Great post. I would like to add the NH racing's black cars of the past, or the gorgeous Interscope VPJ cars that Danny Ongias drove.

Black cars look horrible on video. Especially at night.
Argue all you want but it is a fact.

Anybody who films racing will tell you the same thing.

Well lets make a rule... All black cars reverse to opposite color on white on night races.

From my recollection, the greatest colour contrast in nature is yellow and black (ie bees & hornets, etc)

In that vein, Sarah Fisher has the most readily identifiable livery in the field.

Dunno about you, but to me her car seems to pop out of the TV screen on restarts relative to the others.

And since the livery is a 'natural' colour, it is easy to look at (compared to similar but un-natural liveries, like Paul Menard's)

Likewise with the old Jordan F1 cars and the Dollar General Cup car. IMO.

I work in TV land and there is no more visible a combo than white on black.

If it wasn't, film and TV credits would be a different color combination.

    D'OH!!

Thanks for posting a Shadow, Gary. Those were my fav's growing up, along with the Lotus 79.

One of my favorites too. As I said earlier, there is no higher contrast than black and white. And that's the reason we use white paper and dark ink. It was easier to make paper white than to make it black, or we might have been using that all these years. In film and video either one is equally as easy to use as a background.

Listen guys, I love black race cars BUT Bruton has a point. My TV guy hat (yes, community cable doing hockey and other sports isn't making me a TV god any time soon)says that a black car at night isn't as good for TV and the fans in the stands as say red or blue race cars would be.

That said, I think if the teams adopted the attitude of NASCAR teams and put special livery up for a night race on an oval, it might help. Anyone remember Earnhardt's chrome coloured "3"?

Far be it for me to tell Bruton he is full of crap, he has made more money than I in this business. If he says the teams shouldn't show up with black cars, it is worth thinking outside the box for..

Now I am going to take a cold shower...that UOP Shadow pic has me all hot and bothered!!!
