I would love to see Volvo back in the BTCC.

I think that these S2000 regulations are really starting to get some momentum now.

Sadly you may not get to se your wish. Though I am reasonably confident we will have Independent Volvo's in the BTCC, purchased by teams the calibre of Motorbase and Team Eurotech from the STCC before long. Watching the ITV4 coverage of the WTCC race from Brands Hatch after the repeat of the 3 BTCC races from Oulton Park I head the commentator mention Volvo were very keen on a programme in the WTCC. What he said is vague so whether or not he said exactly, and whether or not he had any hard and reliable source to make that statement, I am not so sure.

But I am sure he said a programme in the WTCC.

I'd be happy with them anywhere. The more manufacturer support in touring car racing, the better. And as you alluded to, the more cars built, the further they'll spread in domestic series.

I know Cleland said something about talking to other Volvo Dealers about trying to get the money together to fund a programme in the BTCC. Don't know how serious they are, but he was certainly enthusiastic about the Volvo all weekend (I'm sure his Volvo Dealership had nothing to do with that though!).

Cleland? As in John Cleland? What influence does he have in the Swedish marquee that he could be the brains behind a works BTCC team?

It would be simply awesome for me to see an experienced driver running a team in the series where he made his name but how is he involved in Volvo exactly?

Wonder if any of his staff could be used. I mean I am sure smaller teams are composed of personnel aquired from dealerships. Though if a works team I would imagine actual professional personnel could be brought in if the money is there to do it.

According to the "people" link on the website his boy Niki is a technician along with Chris Bell. And Phil Milligan and Jimmy McGovern are Master Technicians. I wonder if they could be used as technicians in the team. Be nice to think we could have yet another father and son working in the same BTCC team. But according to the "heritage" link Niki and another son in Jamie, are also racing. So am I the only one who thinks it would it be even nicer again to think Jamie, and not just Niki, could be given the role of the drivers instead of pit crew if their dad is running the team?

Its a nice idea but lets not get too ahead of ourselves here, its just a rumour and until there is more concrete evidence its harder to make judgement on it.
