Hamilton - you can't be serious... he has been in the sport for 5 minutes, has yet to really dominate the sport which i think you have to do to be considered a great, plus we have only seen what he can do in a good car, most drivers can look like a star in a good car, lets see what he can do in a bad car ala Alonso in last years Renault

Well, neither of the first two deserve to be labelled "great" after Suzuka 1990 and Adelaide 1994.
And the greatest ever racing driver just scrapes in as he did race a Formula 1 Maserati in the French GP of 1947. I mean the one and only Tazio NuvolariDuncan Rollo
The more you learn, the more you realise how little you know.

Listing the top ten based on wins / championships etc is easy and boring, what is good is listing the top 10 who are spectacular and showmen and have something special about them. My list would go like this:
1. Ayrton Senna
2. Gilles Villeneuve
3. Pedro Rodriguez
4. Nigel Mansell
5. Keke Rosberg
6. Fernando Alonso
7. Jean Alesi
8. Ronnie Peterson
9. Fangio
10. Jochen Rindt

1: Gilles Villeneuve
2: Alan Jones
3: Ayrton Senna
4: Alain Prost
5: Rene Arnoux
6: Fernando Alonso
7: Nelson Piquet
8: Niki Lauda
9: Keke Rosberg
10:Nigel Mansell
Purely for excitement value. Watching Jones and Villeneuve bang heads at Monaco (amongst other occasions), and Villeneuve and Arnoux at Paul Ricard(? maybe wrong..) were seminal F1 moments.

Congratulations, you've all asked the most impossible question of all time: Who is the greatest F1 driver?
That question is more impossible than what is the meaning of life? But Id say anyway:
1. Ayrton Senna
2. Alberto Ascari
3. Juan Manuel Fangio
4. Michael Schumacher
5. Sir Jackie Stewart
6. Jim Clarke
7. Gilles Villenueve
8. Alain Prost
9. Fernando Alonso
10. Nelson PiquetCongratulations Sebastian Vettel. Champion of the season of seasons.

These are always fun. Here's my list:
1. Clark
2. Fangio
3. Schumacher
4. Senna
5. Prost
6. Stewart
7. Lauda
8. Alonso
9. Rindt
10. Fittipaldi
Maybe Villeneuve would be on the list too, if I'd ever seen him. (I guess you had to see him to appreciate him.) But I haven't, so... And then there's Moss.. But it seems suitable somehow that the Top 10 list should have only World Champions.
