Ed Carpenter 7th in the points.

For those of you following the running debate whether Ed will finish in the points this year higher than at least 90% of the X CCWS drivers as of today Ed is in 7th place in the points and looking good. I'm sure if he stumbles you guys will let me know. : )

Thats nice and all, but isn't the IRL points system a joke?

It seems very Nascar-like, were it rewards mediocre performance. I would like to see a return to the CART points system, 20,16,14,12 etc. Just my opionion of course.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread, Ed Carpenter is doing a good job. Foyt seems to have improved as well, but the team's performance might fall off without Larry Curry.

It actually favors top finsihes a great deal:

    1st 50
    2nd 40
    3rd 35
    4th 32
    5th 30
    6th 28
    7th 26
    8th 24
    9th 22
    10th 20
    (then 1-pt incements to 18th)

Three points are awarded to the driver who leads the most laps in each race.

4 points between 6th and 4th, yet there are 15 between 3rd and 1st. I think it's one of the things the league has done best.

So if you get a win, it's a huge deal.
    YOUR FAVORITE DRIVER...
is not half bad now that I think about it.

Ed Carpenter is starting to come into his own. If both the driver and the team continue to develop, they could be a dark horse for race wins.

    Divide by 5:
    1st 10
    2nd 8
    3rd 7
    4th 6,4
    5th 6
    6th 5,6

So it's actually a lot tighter than the already tight European point system.
Of course the CART system is nearly the same except it doesn't give points for very low positions.

Thanks for the warm welcome, to us "transition fans". It's nice to have our noses rubbed in it. What's next, neernern neener poo poo? And here I thought the split was over. Apparently not.

The only reason this even came up was because a couple of CC fans were bagging on Ed, saying how much more talented even the CC back markers would be in comparison. I replied that I thought he would end up beating 90% of the transition drivers this year & a bet was made. So far he's ahead of 100% of them so apprently he's not the hack he was made out to be.
