What do you think of the new "qualify on Saturday, set your position on Sunday" format? My initial reaction is that it is a reasonable approach to creating entertainment with only 33 or so entrants.

In my view this is more lipstick on a pig. Fix the pig.
Fuel allotment = X
Car Width = X
Car length = X
Car weight w/o driver = X
Tire size = X
ANY engine
fuel cell size unlimited
no wing restrictions
Go racing!
Agree with the exception of fuel cell size. That's a safety consideration since these cars race on high speed ovals. Different from the F1 formula.Quote:

As an Indy Car newbie. Can someone just explain or put up a link about the new qualifying format for this season.
Here is the official story about the new qualifying format for the Indy 500: http://www.indycar.com/News/2014/03/3-7 ... ing-Battle
Thanks very much champcarray. That was useful for me to brush up on those Regs.
There is plenty other and more important stuff that needs fixing before destruction of traditional culture. Creation of new tradition of destroying traditions I guess.
