Reading the season review on the Maxi Rally class, it sounds like a success.
RallySport Magazine - Tales from Argentina and their Maxi Rally Cars
What is the 2012 plan for this class;
- new teams with new bodywork coming in?
- is the class spreading to other countries?
What I heard is that the amount of cars will grow, probably a new model (Fiat Palio) will be included.
Some are saying that more cars are going to race in Paraguay. Besides that, in Brazil Mauricio Neves (2010 VW Dakar driver) is developing something similar, with the same idea, but with some differences. It will be called XRC - Xtreme Rally Car (Xtreme Rally Car).
In the FIA South America Regional Championship the Maxi Rally cars are allowed to compete in the same class as the N4 cars (as it is in Argentina).
There have been 20 cars built.
Two of them have raced in Paraguay championship, and there is interest in a brazilean driver, he even raced one Vw as 0 car and plan to do it next year.
There have been some reliability problems, but nothing really wrong or strange for a new type of cars.
Health of national championship is better than before, so ir worked out.
What is not good is geting out of FIA rules, for instance at Rally Argentina, they are out of the race, no possibility to comapre to SWRC or PWRC.
Yesterday, they just launched the new car developed here in Brazil: it's called XRC - Xtreme Rally Car.
It follows the same formula of the Argentine Maxi Rally Cars, with the same engine, gearbox, transmission and suspension for all the cars, the only difference is the 'outer' shell. The first prototype uses a Peugeot 207 (the 206+ from Europe) shell. They have a V6 engine, 5-speed sequential gearbox and around 300hp. Here in Brazil they will compete against regular N4 cars and probably against the Maxi Rally Cars from Argentina (I don't think that is confirmed yet).

Just a small update about the Maxi Rally cars from Argentina.
It's being said that on 2013 they won't be allowed to run on the FIA South American Championship. This will happen because the Championship will follow FIA rules and as the Maxi Rally Cars aren't FIA homologated, they won't compete. The Brazilian XRC project probably won't be homologated either.
As a consequence, the 2013 South American Championship will have only four rounds (Argentina won't have an event): Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia and Uruguay.
Stupid! That is called shooting yourself in the foot!
Should be possible to have them in own class, or make a special approval to get spectacular cars as part of regional championships, if they have homologated cars regionally!
stupid ...
co-driven : what about XRC cars ? Is there new projects ?
Yes, i's really stupid? Why does the Codasur prevent regional teams to build their own cars???Quote:

The XRC team will contest the X-Games in Brazil, on April/2013. They will have a 4-cylinder engine with around 600 hp (that's what was said). The project includes two cars and rumors say that Piquet Jr. will be one of the drivers.
