[ERC] 31. Int. Janner Rallye 2014 (03.-05.01.2014):
Its more than 128 days to go, but the opening event of the ERC 2014, the 31st Jänner Rallye, has already published all informations.
The event runs from Friday, January 3rd to Sunday, January 5th 2014 over 18 - hopefully snow and ice covered - stages with a total length of 245,60 km.

Take care that the stages of next year´s Jänner Rally will be held on Saturday and Sunday. The itineray is almost the same than from the 2013 edition. Hopefully the weather will be better next year.

My home Rallye - I´ll be there :) This year I missed it because of my job.

The regulations have been published on the rally's website. The entries are opening tomorrow.

Re: [ERC] 31. Int. Jänner Rallye 2014 (03.-05.01.2014):
My estimation at the moment about first ERC rally of 2014:
Possible starters:
Gryazin
Baumschlager
Pech ?
Tarabus
Orsak
Kopecky
Lappi ?
Kajetanowicz ?
Besseney
Lukacs
Neubauer
Danzinger
Chentre
Solowow
rather unsure:
Peugeot Rally Academy
Harrach (problems with sponsor)
Bouffier (dependent on his plans 2014)
Cerny (if he gets a car, already sold his R2 and waiting for a R5)
probably not starting:
Andreas Aigner (Subaru starts later according to their business year)
Napoca rally team
Renault Sports (Bonnefis, Consani)
Arai (like Aigner)
Jakes (waiting for his R5)

Re: [ERC] 31. Int. Jänner Rallye 2014 (03.-05.01.2014):
Other possible starters could be Lappi, Kopecky, Saibel, Grössing, Brugger and hopefully some scandinavian drivers.
-
Re: [ERC] 31. Int. Jänner Rallye 2014 (03.-05.01.2014):
maybe another possible driver ist Raffael Sulzinger. The young German, supported by Walter Röhrl, set 3 best stage times last year in the 2WD categorie with an R2 car against Danzinger (R3), Neubauer (S1600), Besseney (R3), Chentre (R2)...
After that he had 3 punctures, so he was not able to fight for the victory but maybe 2014 he can go for it... ;-)

Re: [ERC] 31. Int. Jänner Rallye 2014 (03.-05.01.2014):
Two more weeks till entries close.
According to Autosport.cz following entries are talked about:
Baumschlager, Tarabus, Saibel, Tlust´ak, Orsak on Skoda S2000
Valousek, Grössing on Fiesta R5
Bouffier on Peugeot S2000
Harrach, Gassner sen. and jun. on Evo
Not sure: Kopecky
No talks about Lappi.
I´d hope for more "ERC"-drivers entries, otherwise I suppose it´s the last Jänner Rallye in ERC.
Don´t think Peugeot works team will start - suppose they will start season either in Latvia with their old cars or finally at Acropolis with R5.
Aigner probably isn´t starting according to Manfred Stohl.

It's not according to autosport.cz but somebody's post on our forum. Take it easy.

Re: [ERC] 31. Int. Janner Rallye 2014 (03.-05.01.2014):
Robert Kubica probably starting according to rallye organizer Ferdinand Staber:

Also Gryazin starting according to Austrian touring Club news (screenshot in the link above) with his Fiesta S2000.

No Skoda Motorsport this year - they start in Latvia.
Bad news for Jänner Rallye!

Gryazin confirmed his start few weeks ago.

Yes, event is too early for them and they prefer christmas holidays instead of testing...

Re: [ERC] 31. Int. Janner Rallye 2014 (03.-05.01.2014):
Well Jänner 2014 could really develop a disaster, for organizers - and fans. Who wants to pay 40 Euros for a rally pass just to watch the Austrian drivers and just the one or other Czech driver who isn´t boycotting Jänner 2014 because of it´s date, and hardly any international guests, and above all no works Team like Peugot or Skoda participating.
Now with Latvia at an earlier date and Sibiu as snow rallies I see ERC 2015 with only these two rallies remaining as winter rallies, I´d even bet on this.
Rally organizers must be desperate to announce Blomqvist as a safety car driver and having nothing else to tell to the press ... Even ERC official Homepage seems to have blocked Jänner from the news.
As a local boy i find it very sorry, but Jänner can´t move the date, the organizers are just hobbyists, who are doing the Rally in their Christmas holidays. That was already mentioned as critical for the continued existence of Jänner as an international rally by several observers in the last years, and it looks like this is breaking this Rally.
-
Re: [ERC] 31. Int. Janner Rallye 2014 (03.-05.01.2014):
I guess the "Wintercup" idea was an incentive to get some guys to go there.
Did ERC people try to persuade them to change the date?

We've discussed this issue already in the last years. There are a couple of reasons why a change of the date is hardly possible for the organizers.
1) It would be nearly impossible to find volunteers after Jan 6th when the Christmas holidays are ending in Austria.
2) if the postpone the rally one or two weeks, there would be a High risk that the rally takes place on the same weekend as the Kitzbühel skiing downhill race which is - hardly understandable for non austrians - the most important Sport event in Austria.
I'm really afraid that the 2014 edition could be very critical for the future of this great rally.

But there are rallies in Austria outside of the Christmas holidays are there not?

Of course there are. But Jänner Rallye (Jänner = january ) in july wouldn't make sense.

Re: [ERC] 31. Int. Janner Rallye 2014 (03.-05.01.2014):
Actually the summer mini edition (Pirelli Star Driver) wasn't that bad :)
But sure Jänner shall continue as snow rally however it will be difficult to stay in both ERC and MM?R in its date.

Both Pirelli Star driver editions were great. But there were only two short circuit stages - in autum. I think, that most stages of the Jänner Rallye (except Pierbach which is a very twisty stage and the first half of the Schönau - St. Leonhard stage) would be way to fast on dry tarmac. Also because of the mainly very smooth tarmac.
On the other hand the costs for the organsisation of the rally would be much higher, because of crop and field damages. And the farmers in Upper Austria are quite bullheaded and have no understanding for the rally.

I don´t know, and by now I´d rate it only as a rumour - as long as entry list isn´t being published.
Fixed starters seem to be Tarabus and Pech, Valousek wants to start but isn´t sure of his budget.
But in total a very poor entry list seems more than likely as time goes on - an entry list which probably nearly would be the same if Jänner would only count for Austrian championship and European Cup Central Coeff. 10 (like Rallye Waldviertel).

Are you joking? Without ERC and Czech championship you will not have drivers like Pech, Tarabus, Gryazin, Raoux, Lukacs, Bessenyey...

+1
Don't think that I am a daydreamer. I'm also afraid that this year's entre list won't be very good. But the history of the last editions has showed, that most entries of the jänner Rallye are coming in very close before the closing date of the entries.

Rally Chief Ferdinand Staber promises a stronger starter field than last year - we will see ...
I wonder which Fiesta R5 he means - Kubica, Grössing, Valousek or another one? Gryazin gets his R5 later (in march?) I thought - and it was written he starts with Fiesta S2000.

Re: [ERC] 31. Int. Janner Rallye 2014 (03.-05.01.2014):
There is one Fiesta R5 entered, but nobody from drivers you wrote.

Would be great if Lotos invest also in Kajto for an international program with a Fiesta R5..

Re: [ERC] 31. Int. Janner Rallye 2014 (03.-05.01.2014):
Some Austrian drivers, also some known ones, are thinking about starting only in national (Austrian) championship, not in ERC. It´s because of the ERC tyre rules for 18" tarmac tyres with the "E"-sign, which results in some uncertainty in Austrian rallye scene. It´s also about gambling with better roads when starting later after the ERC-drivers, and roads being cleared from snow and ice then, if there´s any at all. On the other hand there´s the risk of obtaining worse notional times for national rally championship participants if a stage is cancelled.

Re: [ERC] 31. Int. Janner Rallye 2014 (03.-05.01.2014):
B.t.w., the Fiesta R5 entry is identified. It´s not an Austrian driver, but one from a neighbouring country - so it´s not Kajto too.

So it must be someone from
Czech Republic
Slovakia
Hungary
Germany
Switzerland
Liechtenstein
Italy
or Slovenia
Are you going to reveal this name or do we need to hire a private detective? ;)
