Simon Larsen is regarded as one of the most talented young drivers in Denmark and has for some years been a part of a talent developement project in Denmark. Last year he and another young driver (Simon Vallentin) were evaluated up against each other and Simon Larsen lost out in that evaluation. Thus he is now doing the R2 championship in Belgium on his own. He has been doing very well in Danish rallies - usually comfortably winning his class - but he has little experience outside Denmark. Danish rallies is almost exclusively on tarmac so he is used to that - however tarmac in Belgium and in Denmark are two very different things. I noticed this when I spectated at Omloop van Vlandern last year.
Summed up, he is doing well in Denmark, and can certainly be both fast and spectacular. But he is facing a steep learning curve and I would be surprised if he will mix it with the leading R2 cars in Haspengouw. But I am looking very much forward to see how he will develop during the year.
Why only Fast Freddy has time on SS1 van Haspengouw
They cancelled SS1 ??? Postponed it ??? :mark:
RallyTiming.nl - Index
...so SS1 cancelled :mark:
Lietar lost 1'26 to Fast Freddy on the 9km long SS2
Edit: mistake from the chrono, Litaer lost only 26" ;)
Rather a good time from Melissa, only 3" slower than Verschueren :)
Freddy must feel a bit bored with no competition :(
Big loss of time by Langenakens on SS4(+5') :s and Dilley in difficulties too...now the Polos are well behind the best R2s(Boon and Chérain) :mark:
Paul Geussens and his old C2 R2 Max ahead of Boon and Chérain after SS4
