No ERC2 in 2022 and no specific championship for Rally2-Kit. A statement from the FIA to what they think of it. I don't think this is correct considering other regions have xxx2 championships. Is this just going to deter entries?
They were promised that sth will be for them (Rally2-Kit) so... let's see, but clearly it won't be official championship in ERC :(
It was sure there will not be official ERC2 Championship in 2022. This was confirmed to all competitor before season 2021.
FIA was quick to kill of a class they made not many years ago. First cars came late 2018, early 2019.
Oreca miscalculated the price of the kit, and the class became too expensive compared to R5, and got off on the wrong foot.
Aprox 20 cars are made since 2019, not many. But I think they are pretty reliable tecnically, and cheap to maintain.
But price on the Oreca kit became the achilles heel, and Rally3 have already produced more than 50 cars, and have also been quicker than the Rally2-kit cars.
Now left with no international titles to fight for, the class is left for national series. But I think the fight for level 3 in Rally has been lost to Rally3.
The class was doomed from the very beginning. Just have a look on our discussions from a few years ago. Basically all the fears we had later materialized. Now the right question to ask is why when some internet blokes knew right from the beginning that the concept would fail, why the FIA didn't forsee it either?
