Bamboo to WTCC

Just seen in Autosport mag that Bamboo are entering the WTCC with 2 cars for Harry V and Darryl o'young (porsche Asia champ) and they are wanting to run Turkington as well!

You'd have to wonder if they'd be any more competitive in the WTCC. If not, it seems strange that Turkington would move over there.

This is an awful move. No pedigree in the BTCC for driver and team. So Vaulkhard Snr has decided that since Harry was rubbish in the BTCC, lets try the WTCC. Harry was the slowest of all 4 Chevrolets all last season!

Does that make Harry a bad driver? no. Last season i thought Vaulkhard suffered badly through a few too many mechanical problems and plain bad luck. His display at Donington Park showed what he can do when thigns are going for him.

That said though i dont understand the want for them to move to the WTCC. I dont think they'll be serious challengers for the independents crown (not when they're up against the likes of SUNRED (who are getting some of the SEAT TurboDiesels) Proteam, Engstler and Wiechers. But at least they're ambitious and brave enough to give it a proper go. Good luck to them.

Got to agree, I think they are making the jump waay too soon. Theres far too many experienced and talented outfits in the WTCC and I fear that Harry and co will just be making up the numbers in the indy championship.

I hope im wrong though

Harry Vaulkhard and the Bamboo team were decent in the BTCC and they will probably find themselves stuck in the rear of the midfield in the WTCC. Good luck to the team!

He's a very quick driver, but I don't think his driving style is suited to the BTCC, he too often gets himself involved in tangles. Perhaps he would do a better job in the WTCC where there is less contact and they race on wider tracks.

I don't think Vaulkhard's a bad driver at all. He clearly has some genuine pace, but I thought he lacked racecraft in the BTCC last year, and I don't see the point of jumping to the WTCC for either driver or team. Both need to develop further before making such a leap. I don't predict great things for them.

Apart from Thompson. Not exactly quality WTCC drivers are they now?

He's not...15th-20th in the championship is not a quality driver make.

What, how could the people say former German champion Engstler is not quality driver?
Don't remember he almost won the ETCC, in the WTCC, he was leading in the 2nd race in Pau and Oschersleben then DNF at late due the crash with safety car and engine blow up.
About that last place in overall ranking, do you think will he really care about this, what he wants is just to be independent champion.

Then another thing, I am very impressioned of the decision of Canadian O'young did, but this must be earlier years ago, not now, in fact as a pupil of mighty chinese Charles Kwan, should not be modest driver as anybody think.
But i think he will surely suffering to be in the last place, maybe in the entire season, due the high level of WTCC if comparing with Asia Porsche cup, and the car which he will drive in this year is totally different as that Carrera as he drove in these years ago.

For the another news, i am really looking for Macau new hope Henry Ho could participate in WTCC, maybe not in entire, but at least in the middle.
I hope for our gov. could make a favor for the big companies could have a lower tax if they really could full support of our drivers in racing activities, but also in other sports.
I think our gov. just like to take the huge tax of these casinos instead to have willings of influencing to better support of local athletes, this is uncareful of public wishes.

Didn't Darryl O'Young race for Prospeed Competition in the FIA GT this season? - I think his GT2 Porsche had the LKM logos on it then so I'm guessing he's brought the sponsorship to the team....

Yes, I guess his parents is handling in a big part of actions of LKM.
In fact their parents are chinese born, then the company is based in China mainland, so you can see in car window of Darryl has 5 star flag instead of HK flag.
Ok, as the people say "who cares, since HK is part of China now", but remember Matthew Marsh just stick HK flag in window in any race.

So i think this is related of Darryl's promotion trick, in fact he's born and raised in Vancouver, he has no direct relation with China, instead through their parents. Like Dutch driver Tung Ho Pin, which is the same situation.
Mostly people don't understand, China has a lot of willing to joining motorsport with a bunch of monetary support, but never has decent quality drivers, then they hire the chinese ethnic drivers of the oversea to naturalizing as chinese citizen to racing for that country.

With similar case, remember in 10 years there's a chinese motorcycle team which competed in Asia RR series, which is sponsored by chinese manufacturer, in fact the bikes are Honda CBR600, then all riders are chinese ethnic which born in Canada, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Mostly non-chinese motorsport fan didn't know some details, in CTCC is compulsery has only drivers with chinese nationality, but people didn't know all top drivers of 2000 class are born in HK, is very rarely to see mainland drivers going to win race, maybe never, i don't remember.

Does Bamboo still have some ex-RML staff? Perhaps they could be a little better if they have people experienced with the car (and tyres) and tracks the series visits

But what I was getting at is that they may have people who know what the setup needs to be like for say Brno because they've had to set the Lacetti up there previously. But they don't have the exact know-how to travel to a new circuit with different tyres and make the car work?
