It looks super. We need more. But then we also need some slightly bigger ones, a 3/4 mile oval banked at roughly 15 degree would be superb. Alternatively build a Dover!
Nice to see it has a kart track by the looks of things, clever thinking, exactly what rockingham should have had from the get go!"Before Stonehenge was 'Woodhenge' and 'Strawhenge', but a big bad wolf came and blew them down, and 3 little piggies were relocated to other projects"

replaced Baarlo for f1 Stockcars in that area, Baarlo was much bigger, bigger than hednesford but a recent visit to what is left of baarlo shows that th treck is in perfect condition but missing armco and a few cabins dumped on the track but is used for nothing!

I never understood why a kart track wasnt built. Stick it in the middle of the track somewhere, and you have all these grandstands for people to sit and watch. Not only that but you'd get the thrill of competing in the middle of one of the best motorsport facilities in the country.

It seems the old promoter died in 1984 and his successors didn’t quite keep it together. I also remember hearing that the land owner was operating the camping lot next door and had complaints from the campers and wanted to extend the camping area, what obviously never matured.
A lot of Baarlo racers also raced on German speedway tracks (Kaldenkirchen, Reck-inghausen, Gelsenkirchen) in the same area. These were pretty wild tracks, all de-funct now.
Some nice era photos and further information (In German):

So if some like minded person with the gift of negotiation were to get the land owner interested again, it could open up for use once more....?????

I don’t know about Dutch law but probably the old concession has expired, meaning a new concession would be required, obviously by today’s standards.
A quite enthusiastic promoter built a new oval (Venray) about 35 km away, but is still fighting environmental issues. That promoter actually planned to build a NASCAR type oval in Moers/Germany a couple of years ago, but was rejected by the local gov-ernment.

How long was Baarlo exactly?
That place looked immense, such a shame it's not still in use, the Ascars would chew up the Euro cars down those straights, lol.

From the European Late Model Page
Venray on calendar for 2011 - 24th November 10
The latest venue on the European Late Model Series calendar has been announced. The newly built 1km oval at Venray in the Netherlands, is set to host Late Model races in 2011. Several Late Model drivers have visited the venue and setting laps around the 20 second mark with an average laps speed of 95 mph.
The track is 90% complete and will be finished in May 2011. The European Late Models will race at the inaugural meeting, which is to be held on the last weekend of June 2011. This will be a two day meeting and that will be followed by at least two more double headers, provisionally scheduled for last weekends of July and August.
The track features progressive banking in the turns with a top groove of 23 degrees Shallowing out to 11 degrees for the straights. A quarter mile oval has also been built on the infield, allowing the regular short circuit formulas to race on the same bill, completing the weekends entertainment.
The European Late Model Series will be making further announcements as the build up to Euro Late Models 2011 continues.
