Default What is the best motor racing-related gift you've ever received (or wish you had)?

A friend of mine whose greatest passion is motor racing (he drives rally cars and watches F1) is turning 40 in a few weeks and I'd like to get him a present related to motor racing..but I could do with some help with ideas!

Please let me know what the best motor racing-related present is that you've ever received, or what you would ideally like to get as present, related to motor racing. Obviously it has to be something that all motor racing fans would love to get (not just you)! Please be a specific as possible (i.e. makes/models, if relevant)

    Many thanks
    A

As Mark says: what's your budget? Is your friend at all interested in the history of motor sport or just in the "here and now"

There are some very nice large scale (1:18 and 1:12) model cars around. The price goes up with the degree of detail.

If he's into books, there are several on line specialist booksellers. Chaters, is probably your best bet.

How about a print of a painting from Studio 88 (Michael and Graham Turner), motorsportcollector.com, collectorsprints.co.uk/, or looking at the adverts in Motor Sport there's cuaa-art.com, speedsportgallery.co.uk, atelierbolide.com, F1collectors.com, vintageautoposters.com etc

Some motoring artists will produce paintings of your pet subject at surprisingly reasonable prices

They mounted the "Ford" stamped emblem off the block of my blown FF motor at Portland International. I was doing very well - guess the motor was running "Loose"

I got a Neste Oil Rally Finland wristwatch from my friend when I got married. Strangely, my wife didn't appreciate it nearly as much as I did

Last week my parents gave me the belated birthday present of half the money for me to go to the Monaco Historic (with my old man), that was pretty good.

Other than that there are assorted rallying DVDs that get watched fairly regularly.

I wouldn't mind someone giving me a ticket to a F1 GP since I've never been to one... even if F1 leaves me cold nowadays but I guess that's not what you're looking for

I got a 2001 Benetton signed by Jenson Button for my 18th bday in 2002! It was definitely my best ever F1 present! One of my best presents ever actually - it's valuable and is never going anywhere near ebay. He signed that for me an I'm keeping it! It was Ł100.

Clearly not a Benneton car or part of one so what was it: A model Benneton, a Benneton garment, a Benneton poster, or what?

Sorry I mean a model Benetton. It's a decent size, I don't know what scale but it's possibly 20cm long.

    Keep us informed.

Imagine if he owed your Dad a massive favour. And rolled last years Force India onto your drive. That would win the thread. haha
